TRENTON - The Cumberland County Cool Blues are on the verge of taking a stranglehold in their opening round Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League divisional semifinal series against the Pictou County Scotians.
Cody Roach scored two goals, including one into an empty net, and added two assists as the Blues defeated the Scotians 5-2 here last night to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven coming home for Game 3 on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Richard Calder Arena.
The Blues opened the series with a 6-1 win at home on Friday.
The Blues scored five times in the first period to open a 5-2 lead after 20 minutes and led 6-3 after two before trading a pair of goals with the Scotians in the final frame.
Mark Rozak also had two goals for the Blues and added an assist while Ryan Smith, Murray Bavis, Andrew Brennan and Nathan Lavigne each scored once. Seth Crowe had three assists, Cody Firth two and Ryan Kay, Matt Noiles, Matt Carroll and Justin Cortes one apiece for the Blues.
Neil Pashkoski had three goals for the Scotians with Gus Smith and Matt Williams adding single markers. The Blues outshot the Scotians 48-37.
In the series opener, Roach had three goals and Smith a goal and an assist for the Blues while Shane O'Byrne and Brennan fired single markers. Julien Rousselle had two assists for Cumberland County with David Burke, Kay, Crowe, Bavis, Roazk and Lavigne adding assists. Jimmy MacInnis scored the only goal for the Scotians, who were outshot 52-33.
