SPRINGHILL - The Springhill High School Golden Eagles senior girls posted three wins and a loss in its past week of girl's basketball activity.
The Golden Eagles fell 65-52 to Oxford Regional High on Thursday, before rebounding to gain a win over the Mathieu Martin High School Matadors of Dieppe and a pair of victories over the James M. Hill JV Tommies of Miramichi.
Erin Dorn's 17 points led Oxford over a not as well conditioned Golden Eagles club. Paige Black added 12 for the winners.
Shauna Ryan's 16 points led SHS, followed by Kirsten Gogan with eight and Brittan Barton, Leah Crowe and Jill Casey with six apiece. Meagan Moore had five and Taylor MacDonald had two points to round out the offence.
"The girls are working on their conditioning," Golden Eagles coach Charlie Chambers said. "We haven't played as many quality games as Oxford has and that was evident, especially in the third quarter when they took advantage of us and jumped out to a 12-point lead which we couldn't cut into. They have a very good club."
In Dieppe, Barton poured in 21 points and Beaton struck for 15 to lift Springhill to a 75-40 win over Mathieu Martin on Friday. Casey, Ryan and Meagan Moore each had 10 points, followed by Crowe with six, Gogan with two and Patricia Thompson with one.
In Miramachi, Barton shot 16, Crowe 12 and Beaton 10 to spark SHS to its opening game 71-42 win over James M. Hill. Gogan and Meagan Moore both had eight, while Ryan and Thompson had six each. Emily Moore hit a three-pointer, while Casey and MacDonald also managed hoops.
Meagan Moore, Casey and Beaton each had 10 points to lead the Eagles to a 72-46 second game victory.
Gogan poured in nine, Thompson and Barton added eight, Ryan seven, Emily Moore six, MacDonald four and Crowe two rounded out the attack.
"We were hoping for closer games in our New Brunswick swing but the girls played well," Chambers said. "Our players need to realize they need to work hard at both ends of the floor and also in practice, and good things should come our way because of it."
The Golden Eagles next see action in this weekend's Oxford Regional High School tournament.
