Vikings romp to regional championship

AMHERST - The Amherst Regional High School Vikings claimed the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Northumberland Region Division 2 boys basketball banner after wins over Hants East and South Colchester on Friday.
Richard Hope scored 45 points and shot more than 55 per cent from the floor as the Vikings defeated Hants East 84-53.
Other scorers were Sammy Mohamad with 11 points, Ryan Budd and Kevin LePage with eight each, Dylan Rushton with six and C.J. Curtis, Ryan Thompson and Patrick Neufeld with two apiece.
In the other game, Ryan Budd scored 21 points and Richard Hope added 15 as the Vikings defeated South Colchester 71-41.
Sammy Mohamad scored 14 points while Kevin LePage had nine, Ryan Thompson four and C.J. Curtis, Dylan Rushton, Patrick Neufeld and Josh Lee each had two points. David Manuele had one point.
Amherst will host the eight-team provincial championship tournament March 4-6 while Hants East will advance to a provincial qualifier this weekend.
"Our team is playing strong offensively as we are executing plays and shooting the ball very well," said coach Reg Caulfield.
"We are still having some mental lapses when the pace of the game picks up and we need to make some adjustments in this area and be more focused on every possession."
