AMHERST - Business is brisk at H1N1 vaccination clinics across Cumberland County.
"We know there are still cases out there, but it's certainly not to the degree it was. We're seeing very few at our emergency departments and we're hoping we're on the other side of this," Cumberland Health Authority spokesperson Ann Keddy said.
Immunization clinics in Oxford and Parrsboro earlier this week vaccinated more than 700 people, and more got their shot Wednesday in Springhill. Clinics are scheduled for the Amherst armoury today through Saturday.
"We've been getting huge numbers and we're expecting it to be busy again when the clinics return to Amherst," said Keddy.
"We have learned a lot on how to manage the crowd. People may still have to wait, but we're hoping we've been able to adjust the way we do things to make it a little less difficult."
While the number of H1N1 cases continues to decline, public health officials are urging those who have not received their vaccination to do so. Late last week, the province opened the campaign up to all Nova Scotians.
Visits to emergency rooms across the county, like those across the province, are being monitored and if the number of flu cases increases again, assessment centres will be reopened as needed.
Keddy said the more people can be vaccinated and utilize the hand-washing skills learned during the first and second waves, the better the chance an expected third wave this winter can be managed.
