ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The police force investigating a theft of cash from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary headquarters is asking people to look out for $100 bills.
The Ontario Provincial Police says merchants and financial institutions should be wary of anyone making purchases, payments or deposits using the large Canadian currency.
Police have not revealed how much money was taken from the constabulary in St. John's, but a source told the St. John's Telegram the total was $14,000.
The theft happened after a lock on a temporary storage locker was jimmied Dec. 13.
The lockers are for after-hours or short-term storage of seized and found items until the property control officer comes on duty.
Constabulary chief Joe Browne has said the report by the investigators from Ontario will be handed directly to the Department of Justice once complete.
