AMHERST - One win and one tie was reason enough to celebrate for Dairy Queen Fundy United during the Tier 2 Under 14 Boys Tournament held this weekend in Amherst.
"We were really lucky to come out of the second game with a 1-1 tie," coach Rick Goodwin said. "That team was really good."
Luck came in the form of a timely goal.
"Ryan Goodwin took a shot from centre and it just happened to go off the Antigonish goaltenders hand and into the net," Goodwin said.
Goodwin has big praise for the Fundy United goaltender.
"He made about 10 good saves three of those came in a matter of seconds but he managed to keep it out.
Antigonish has a reputation as a tough team to beat because the team has an indoor soccer facility in the winter, giving the team the chance to practice and play all winter long.
Their first game of the day was against Truro and they won by 4-1
Corey Zollner scored three and Nick Wolfe scored one.
Their first game was played on the E.B. Chandler soccer pitch and their second game was played on the Winston Street soccer field.
The Dairy Queen Fundy United Boys next game is Wednesday night in Antigonish.
